Unicode 18.0: New Characters & Emoji
Unicode 18.0 was released on September 16, 2026 with 13,007 new characters. Copy new emoji, currency signs and selected mathematical and musical symbols.
What was added?
- 13,007 new characters, bringing the encoded character total to 172,808.
- 9 new emoji characters and 5 skin-tone variants for each thumb sign: 19 new emoji characters and sequences in total.
- 3 new currency signs for the Maldivian rufiyaa, UAE dirham and Omani rial.
- 3 new scripts: Small Seal (11,328 characters), Jurchen (914 characters and 51 radicals), and Proto-Cuneiform (numerals in this release).
- 73 musical symbols: 23 in the existing block and 50 in Musical Symbols Supplement. Other additions include historical mathematical symbols, phonetic letters and punctuation.
