How to find invisible characters in text
Paste your text to inspect every code point and identify whitespace, join controls, variation selectors and direction controls. Filter to whitespace and hidden characters to narrow the results. Positions start at 1 and count code points; UTF-16 positions help you compare with editor offsets.
Why keep some zero-width characters?
ZWJ combines emoji, ZWNJ affects connected scripts, variation selectors choose emoji or ideographic presentation, and direction controls support mixed-direction text. These stay by default. Select specific types, review the cleaning preview, then apply it. The original remains available until your next input edit.
Character data and privacy
Names and properties use the pinned official Unicode 18.0 UCD, loaded locally from this site as needed. Official names are displayed in English; private-use and unassigned code points are clearly labeled. Pasted text is processed in your browser and is never sent to the server.
